            1. They are one of the pumpkin melon, and                                                        cucumber family.

                   

                    2. Luffa vines can grow to nine meters long

                     

                       3. The fruit can weight up to 1.5  kilos each.

                     4. Luffas were used in ancient  Egypt  and 

                          have been cultivated for pillows,saddles

                          and helmets and for making slippers and mats.

                  5. Lastly before the second world war,luffa were                              used  as filters in ships'boilers.
